384 Passion Fruit Cocktails And A Call For Psychotherapy Help
/Just after recording this episode Sunshine came down with a rather annoying and life changing cold. The full blog entry will be added after he gets to it. At this point, not even making his own food. Just NyQuil, lots of liquids and rest. You will be happy to see that Pumpkin joined us on this episode. After just two cocktails her conversation gets nice and saucy.
Pre mixed cocktails are generally total BS. Several times over the history of this podcast we have taste tested pre made mai tai's, cosmos, hurricanes and others just because we were asked nicely. And in each case we raised our noses at overly sweetened concoctions with too little booze. Always ready for more punishment we were game to try these two entries from Studebaker. A classic Old Fashioned and Sunshines favorite non tiki drink, a Manhattan. First, the Old Fashioned is the better of the two. At 30% alcohol by volume these are just like the actual mixed drink. Sipping the Old Fashioned you can smell and taste the orange oils and the light sweetness of the drink is pleasing. Toss in a garnish and you could serve this at most bars. Not bad at all. Next, the Manhattan. Good but not as good. We think they failed to add the right amount of sweet vermouth and bitters. In both cases the added herbal qualities are missing from this "Manhattan". Sunshine never wants liquor so he has aded both vermouth and bitters to this pre made drink. All in all, they are both worth about $20 a bottle and the Old Fashioned perhaps a little more.
