345 Merry Christmas From ITMP At Don the Beachcomber
/All of us at Zen Tiki Lounge had an amazing time recording this episode of the podcast from the International Tiki Marketplace at Don the Beachcomber in Huntington Beach. We enjoyed many perfectly made cocktails and a few pupu platters as well. It isn't easy condensing 4 hours of shenanigans into a one hour podcast but we did our best to impress.
If you haven't been to Don's for the International Tiki Marketplace you have to check it out. Several dozen vendors offer their themed art, clothing, collectibles, vintage and unique wares. We never go home without grabbing a few items and having the chance to talk to the artists. This year Kalani, Sunshine and Starshine decided to do our holiday gift giving by finding something for each other at the marketplace. It wasn't long before we exchanged awesome gifts including moai tiki mugs, light up clam shells, hibiscus hair clips, art by Doug Horne and a few other great kitschy pieces. The ITMP takes place about every 6 weeks. Check it out.
Sean is the head bartender at Don's. Using our recipe for Scurvy Killer he perfectly mixed dozens of this cocktail which was very popular during the marketplace. There are two keys to making this cocktail just right. Use Zaya Rum without substituting for another lesser quality rum. Zaya is a sipping rum all on its own is generally not too pricey. And, you can pick up Zaya at Costco for even less $. The other key to this cocktail is making your own cinnamon infused simple syrup. If you can add sugar and water to a saucepan you can make a cinnamon infused syrup. Follow along with the video below that Sunshine made a few years ago.
