308 Hawaii And Acapulco Via Elvis
/This episode of Zen Tiki Lounge is a little bit of Hawaii and a taste of Acapulco. Via Elvis no less. The King recorded literally dozens of albums and some of them showed his love for the Hawaiian islands and the cultures of Latin America. We need a cocktail that showcases this multicultural menagerie. Baja Aloha is just the drink. Originally we poured this beverage at Tiki Oasis: South of the Border in 2011. Tequila, Rum, Damiana and passion fruit come together to create a sweet sipping experience that isn't your usual tiki drink. We admit that Damiana can be a little hard to find, but is worth it. You will find yourself adding this Mexican spirit to your margaritas and daiquiris.
Now we're ready for a trip to the Islands. Elvis is our guide and the plane is ready for take off. Your inflight movie is a no brainer. Sit back with Baja Aloha and relax while Blue Hawaii plays on that tiny little screen in front of you. Elvis filmed three movies in Hawaii and many songs. Blue Hawaii, Girls Girls Girls and Paradise, Hawaiian Style were all filmed in the 50th state. If you haven't ventured through these classic movies you can find them on Amazon or better yet, visit one of your last remaining video stores and RENT them.
Our show wouldn't be complete without something educational. As we mentioned previously, Poly Hai is now in open enrollment. We all need a place to meet up and learn with fellow tikiphiles and polynesiacs. Poly Hai has a class for just about any rum drenched subject you can think of. Sunshine can often be found at Donn Beach Mixology Institute. Admittedly it can be hard to remember a lot of what goes on when drink is so much a part of the learning experience. Thats why you HAVE to get your copy of the Poly Hai yearbook which is now on sale. $40 if you can pick up at Tiki Oasis and $46 if you want it delivered to your US address. Walk campus in style getting signatures from all your tiki peeps and penning phrases like "K.I.T" and "Have a great Summer." Send a paypal payment/request to Beamumba@gmail.com to get yours now.
And one random item from this weeks show submitted from listener Michael while we recorded the show. Sunshine has a "thing" for Jeannie and her bottle. Artist Mario Della Casa has recreated the famous bottle in awesome detail. Take a look, you may find yourself saving up for this conversation piece and artistic whim.
